- Sala But is spread out across two floors with VIP areas and is a 12-minute walk from the gay bars of Chueca.

Getting to the Festival Venues
Journey times below are planning estimates, with extra time needed for holiday traffic, queues and crowded streets.
- Sala BUT – Calle Barceló 11, beside Tribunal. From central Chueca, allow roughly 10–15 minutes on foot via Fuencarral and Barceló. Walking is usually the simplest option. Tribunal station serves Metro lines 1 and 10 and sits around two minutes from the club.
- La Riviera – Paseo Bajo de la Virgen del Puerto, beside the Manzanares river. From Chueca, allow roughly 15–25 minutes by taxi in ordinary traffic. For the Metro, walk to Tribunal, take line 10 to Príncipe Pío, then allow approximately 15–20 minutes to walk to the venue. This route avoids travelling through Sol. Sala La Riviera
- Between Sala BUT and La Riviera – Tribunal to Príncipe Pío on line 10 is the useful public transport connection, followed by the riverside walk. Allow around 30–40 minutes overall. A taxi is easier in party clothes or cold weather; allow approximately 15–25 minutes before traffic delays.
- Returning after the party – Madrid’s normal Metro service runs from 06:00 to 01:30, leaving an overnight gap. Check the festive timetable before travelling, particularly for New Year’s morning. Plan a taxi or app-booked car for a finish during that gap.
Where to Go Before the Party
Start in Chueca, where friends staying in different hotels can meet without crossing the city. Pick one or two stops, then leave time for the journey and club entry.
- D’Mystic – Calle Gravina 5. A useful first meeting point for cocktails, beer and something to eat. Its café-bar format suits an earlier start before moving on to louder bars.
- Súper Pop Bar – Near Gran Vía in Chueca. Choose it for nostalgic 1990s and 2000s pop, themed cocktails and a playful start with friends. Check holiday opening and private bookings before heading over.
- Padrino Cocktail Bar at Only YOU Boutique – A former bookshop converted into a cocktail bar on Chueca’s Salesas side. A good option for a quieter drink before the circuit crowd and large club production
Christmas and New Year During the Festival
- Our Top Tip! Plan one daytime outing per day and leave the rest open. A late lunch, a neighbourhood walk and time to rest make a better fit for five nights of parties than a packed sightseeing schedule.
- Tuesday 29th December – Use your first afternoon for the Christmas decorations, shopping and a walk through the centre. Spain’s festive season continues into January, so Madrid still feels fully dressed for Christmas during the festival. Check our Christmas guide for current attractions and opening dates.
- Wednesday 30th December – Puerta del Sol traditionally hosts a midnight rehearsal for the following night’s countdown. It offers another chance to experience the square; check access arrangements before committing your evening. Tourism Madrid
- Thursday 31st December – Reserve dinner in advance and check whether the restaurant serves a fixed Nochevieja menu. Choose between midnight in Sol and a relaxed meal followed by WE Astral. Combining dinner, the crowded square and club entry requires generous travel time.
- Midnight in Sol – The tradition is twelve grapes with twelve clock chimes. Wait through the preliminary quarter chimes before starting. The official Puerta del Sol celebration is listed for Thursday 31st December 2026.
- Friday 1st January – Keep daytime plans light. Reserve lunch if there is somewhere you want to eat, and check individual attraction and restaurant holiday hours.
- Saturday 2nd January – Leave room for the final festival events. A Sunday departure gives you a more comfortable finish than checking out before the closing night.
Where to Stay in Madrid
Madrid’s centre is a collection of walkable neighbourhoods. Gran Vía is the main reference point: Chueca and Malasaña sit to its north, with Sol and the historic centre to the south. The gay bars cluster around Chueca, but the festival’s larger venues sit beyond the neighbourhood. Stay near the bars and travel to the parties.
- Chueca – The first choice for a social festival stay. Madrid’s gay neighbourhood centres on Plaza de Chueca, with bars along Pelayo, Gravina, Libertad and San Bartolomé. Ideal for meeting friends, pre-party drinks and returning to your hotel to change.
- Malasaña – Immediately west of Chueca, across Calle Fuencarral. Expect independent shops, cafés and a more alternative nightlife scene. Choose the Tribunal end for easy access to Sala BUT; request a room away from bar-lined streets if daytime sleep matters.
