Where to Go Before the Party
- Make Ipanema your starting point if you want dinner and drinks with other gay travellers.
- Spend the early evening around Rua Teixeira de Melo and the streets near the Farme section of Ipanema Beach, then head directly to The Home.
- Copacabana works for a beachfront dinner or drinks if your hotel is there.
Other Editions
- February, 2027 – Rio Carnival Edition.
Where to Stay
Ipanema is my pick for a longer New Year stay: it puts the beach and the Rua Teixeira de Melo nightlife area on your doorstep. Choose Copacabana if its hotel selection or a beachfront stay suits the rest of your trip. Neither neighbourhood is within walking distance of The Home.
- Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro – A luxury Ipanema beachfront choice with a rooftop pool; best for making the hotel part of the New Year trip.
- Arena Ipanema Hotel – Near Arpoador and Ipanema Beach, with a rooftop pool and an easy base for both Ipanema and Copacabana.
- Orla Copacabana Hotel – At the Ipanema end of Copacabana, useful if you want access to both beaches.
- Mercure Rio Boutique Hotel Copacabana – A boutique-style beachfront base in Copacabana for a wider Rio stay.

Most of Rips gay bars are located in Ipanema and Copacabana. Ipanema’s gayest nightspot is on the beach block of Rua Teixeira de Melo, next to Farme.
Along Copacabana beach there is a traditionally gay-friendly area known as Bolsa, near Lido. Hustlers are pretty much part of the scene, and you should keep a good hold on your wallet
