Spirit of Boise Balloon Festival 2027

For five magical days each summer — usually over Labor Day weekend — Boise skies fill with fanciful balloons during the Spirit of Boise Balloon Festival.

The Festival

• Next Edition: From: Wednesday, September 1, 2027 To Sunday, September 5, 2027.
• The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic returns to Ann Morrison Park for five days of hot-air balloon launches, evening events and the spectacular Nite Glow.
• This is an early-morning festival. Most launches take place around sunrise, when Boise’s cooler and calmer conditions give pilots their best opportunity to fly.
• Admission to the festival is free, making it easy to visit for a morning launch and return for the larger evening events.
• More than simply watching balloons from a distance, selected mornings allow visitors onto the launch field as crews prepare the balloons for flight.
• Friday’s “Nite Glow” is one of the highlights. Balloons remain tethered on the field and illuminate their envelopes after dark, accompanied by music and entertainment.
• The weekend draws to a close with two mass morning launches on Saturday and Sunday, filling the sky above Boise with balloons before most of the city has finished breakfast.
• Weather plays a major role. Balloon launches require suitable wind and visibility, so individual flights can be delayed or cancelled at short notice.

Sunday 5th September	Great Launch	The final mass launch closes the 2027 Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic.

Ann Morrison Park

• Ann Morrison Park – 1000 S Americana Boulevard, Boise, immediately southwest of Downtown.
• The large open park provides the launch field needed to inflate dozens of balloons at the same time, with spectators able to watch the preparations from remarkably close range.
• Arrive well before sunrise for the morning launches. Watching the balloons inflate is a fun part of the experience, rather than something that happens before the festival begins.
• Friday evening attracts one of the largest crowds for “Nite Glow”, so arrive earlier than you would for a morning session.
• Launches are weather dependent. Check the official Spirit of Boise website and its social channels before leaving your hotel each morning.

Friday Nite Glow

• Friday 3rd September 2027.
• Nite Glow changes the format from a morning balloon launch to an evening show in Ann Morrison Park.
• The balloons remain tethered to the ground, with pilots firing their burners to illuminate the envelopes after sunset.
• Music and entertainment accompany the glow, creating the festival’s biggest evening gathering.
• This is the event to prioritise if you’re only spending one night in Boise, but pair it with Saturday morning’s launch to experience the balloons in flight.

Gay Boise

Boise’s LGBTQ+ nightlife is small and friendly, with most of the popular venues concentrated Downtown. Ann Morrison Park sits close enough that staying centrally works for both the festival and a night out.

• The Balcony Club – 150 N 8th Street. Boise’s best-known LGBTQ+ nightclub, with DJs, drag shows and a mixed gay and lesbian crowd. Friday and Saturday are the busiest nights.
• Boise’s queer scene is much smaller than you’ll find in larger West Coast cities, so don’t expect a neighbourhood packed with gay venues. Downtown remains the most practical base.

Where to Stay

Stay in Downtown Boise rather than beside the launch field. Ann Morrison Park is close by, and you’ll have the city’s restaurants, bars and LGBTQ+ nightlife within walking distance.

• The Grove Hotel – Upscale Downtown hotel beside Grove Plaza, with spacious rooms and a central location for exploring Boise between festival events.
• Hotel 43 Boise – Boutique Downtown option within easy reach of 8th Street’s restaurants and nightlife.
• Residence Inn by Marriott Boise Downtown/City Center – Modern central option with larger rooms, useful for a longer Labor Day weekend stay.

Planning Your Visit

• Plan for early mornings and a Friday night at the park. If you’re making a weekend of it, Friday afternoon through Sunday gives you Nite Glow plus both of the major weekend launches.
• The balloons don’t follow a conventional show timetable once they’re airborne.
• Wind determines their direction and landing location, and unsuitable conditions can keep them grounded. Check the organiser’s updates before each session rather than assuming a scheduled launch will automatically go ahead.
• The festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, so booking a Downtown hotel early is sensible, particularly if you want to stay within easy reach of Ann Morrison Park.
