the East Coast’s largest pop culture convention and the only one that takes place in the comic book capital of the world — Gotham City.
New York Comic Con is the East Coast’s largest pop culture convention and the only one that takes place in the comic book capital of the world — Gotham City.
- Stay close to the convention centre at the Made Hotel, rated “Fabulous” by guests featuring stylish rooms and a great location to explore the best of the city.
The Event
- In less than a decade NYCC has become the East Coast’s largest gathering of pop culture fanatics and has even created a “Diversity Track” to highlight programming focusing on issues related to the LGBTQ community.
- The event is held annually in the Javits Convention Center in New York City, on Eleventh Ave in Hell’s Kitchen, with additional programming at nearby Madison Square Garden, Hammerstein Ballroom, and Hudson Mercantile.
- Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are full days, with the convention floor open from 10am-7pm (Artist Alley, where you can queue for autographs is open until 8pm) and programming running from around 10:30-11am to 10pm.
- Sunday is a shorter day, with everything ending at 5pm.
- Stay just a short walk from the convention at the Renaissance New York Midtown, popular with fellow attendees with rooms offering great views of new york and highly-rated breakfasts.
Event Highlights
- Each day the crowds grow larger. Unless your schedule just won’t allow it, don’t assume any one day is better than another.
- Thursday is great if you want to get rare items before they sell. There are hundreds of vendors from all over the country in attendance.
- Popular panels include hosted events by Marvel, Netflix and SyFy. Fans of TV, books, and comics are especially well catered for at the event.
- The “Heroes of Diversity” panel and the LGBTQ HQ booth are also very popular.
Tickets
- “Badges” which serve as tickets to access all of the events sell out months in advance so plan your trip early.
- Fans need to verify their account beforehand. It is simple to do and free of charge, but you cant purchase a ticket or attend without verification.
The Venue
- The Javits Convention Center straddles Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. It is also very close to the Port Authority.
- Try and choose hotels that are close to West Mid-Town.
- Given that the event is held so close to New York’s gay district, the bars of Hell’s Kitchen fill up each evening once the convention ends. Hot guys in costume and semi naked superheroes are all the rage at themed parties that continue late into the night!
