About The Dunes
- The Dunes is the area’s primary hub for the hottest LGBTQ entertainment, with themed parties, a live DJ, karaoke, and drag queen bingo. Between The Club, The Main Bar, The Show Bar, The Deck and pool, there is always something happening all summer long at The Dunes.
Gay Saugatuck and Douglas
- With more than 140 gay-owned businesses ranging from B&Bs to art galleries to pie shops, charming little Saugatuck and neighboring Douglas have been dubbed the Fire Island of the Midwest.
- The charming lakeside villages have a welcoming vibe that dates back almost a century, when the Art Institute of Chicago ushered in a bohemian air by establishing its summer school of painting on the Ox-Bow Lagoon. Today, vacationers make the two-hour trek from Chicago to spend a weekend in this charming gay enclave.
- The twin towns of Saugatuck and Douglas, beach towns on Lake Michigan southwest of Grand Rapids, have a surprising number of gay-owned/ gay-friendly establishments.
