Malaga Christmas Lights

  • Next Edition: Typically late November 2026 to Wednesday 6th of January, 2027.
  • Malaga's Christmas lights attract millions of visitors from late December to the Epiphany.
  • Lights come on Friday 28 November at 18:30 on Calle Larios, switched on by special guests.
  • The world-famous spectacular transforms the city's streets into a great light and sound show.
  • This year almost 2 million LED bulbs will light up Malaga daily from 6.30 pm until midnight and until 2 am at weekends.

Calle Larios

  • Calle Larios is Málaga's version of New York's Fifth Avenue, lined with traditional businesses and world-famous fashion brands.
  • Calle Larios hosts the “Celestial Angels” display with 16 four-metre angels (three daily light-and-music shows at 18:30, 20:00, 22:00 from 28 Nov–4 Jan, except 24 & 31 Dec);
  • The city’s lights feature angels on 32 columns that stretch the entire length of the street.
  • But don't worry if you miss the music, the lights are beautiful, and there'll be a great Christmas atmosphere!
  • Music shows on Larios include local Verdiales folk carols on selected dates (23–28 Dec).
  • Stay just steps from the Christmas lights at the Room Mate Valeria rated “Superb” by guests featuring designer rooms with views of the Mediterranean sea. The rooftop terrace is a popular meeting spot.

Other Streets

  • Alameda Principal features 500 leaf-themed hanging lights in the ficus trees and six brightly-lit almond trees.
  • Calle San Juan (parallel to Calle Nueva) features 24 giant Christmas chandeliers and an ‘Enchanted Cave'.
  • Christmas chandeliers also hang along Calle Molina Lario and the 11 side streets off Calle Larios.

Malaga Christmas Trees

This year Malaga has five giant Christmas trees dotted across the city at the following points:

  • Plaza de la Marina.
  • Plaza de la Constitución – you can go “inside” the tree.
  • Plaza del Obispo – this tree looks magical at night next to the illuminated Cathedral façade.
  • Plaza de Enrique García Herrera – on the square west of Calle San Juan.
  • And in Huelin Park, lighting up the lake.

Video Mapping Malaga Cathedral

  • Awaiting dates, Typically from 1st of December – Malaga Cathedral is transformed with a 3D video mapping show on the south tower throughout the festive season.

Other Landmark Lighting

  • Illumination of the Paseo del Parque trees; added arches, selfie-spots on the Alameda, revived figures such as Three Wise Men at the Alcazaba tunnel, plus themed scenes in plazas and Calle San Juan’s three-part immersive lighting (“Chandelier Salon”, “Thai Sky”, “Magic Cave”).
  • City-hall & special touches: New 2-D/3-D festive projections on the Ayuntamiento façade with stars, sweets, bells and Reyes Magos.

Festive Drones

  • Typically on the weekend of the Spanish Bridge Bank Holiday (Dec 6th to 8th) – 8.30pm – 120 drones will fly to create fantastic light displays in the sky over the city's port.
  • The best vantage points to view the Drone Shows are from Palmeral de las Sorpresas, Plaza de la Marina, Muelle Uno, and the walkway up to the Gibralfaro.

Malaga Christmas Markets

Malaga hosts several Christmas Markets, each with its own unique appeal. Sample Malaga's traditional sweets, including mantecados (shortbread), marzipan, turrón (nougat) and borrachuelos (Málaga wine-flavoured fried pastries).

The following are our top recommendations:

  • Throughout December – Paseo del Parque – Open from noon until 8 pm daily throughout December –  Home to over 100 Christmas stalls located in the centre of Malaga, selling a range of gift items, nativity figures and New Year fireworks,
  • From Early December to January 7th – Christmas market at “Muelle Uno “- Open every Sunday until January 7th – Located in the tourist area of the Port of Malaga, selling a range of artisan gifts and delicious delicacies.
