Carnival in Tulum

  • Next Edition: Awaiting dates
  • Carnival or “Carnaval” in Spanish, is a widely celebrated Catholic holiday, known for its Caribbean celebrations and wild colors. Carnival in Tulum typically takes place a week before Ash Wednesday.  The holiday exists to celebrate fun and debauchery before the strictness of Lent.
  • There are Carnaval celebrations all over the Riviera Maya, and Tulum is no exception. It is an explosion of lights, and color, with bands playing music, parades with floats, elaborate and often feathered costumes, dancing, singing in the streets, fireworks, and food!
  • Each town around the area holds their celebration at a different time, so there is time to visit each, and often Tulum in the final party.
  • Concerts are held at the Parque Museo de la Cultura Maya from 9 pm.

The Schedule

  • The 2027 edition will take place over four consecutive days, with an agenda designed for the enjoyment of families, residents and visitors:
  • Thursday –  Official Opening
  • Friday and Saturday – Main festival days
  • Sunday – Grand finale of the carnival

The Carnival Parades

  • Exact Routes to be confirmed.
  • The opening Friday begins with a parade of floats starting at Boulevard Tulum and finishing at Maya Museum Park. After the parade, the the crowning of the Carnival king and queen ceremony takes place. The king and queen will lead the celebrations over the weekend. The night ends with a huge carnival ball and parties continue late into the night in the hotels and beach clubs across Tulum.
  • Saturday the second parade takes place at 7pm. This time the parade starts at the Tulum Boulevard and ends at the Parque Museo Maya, followed by a beautiful costume contest.
  • Sunday  sees the conclusion of the Carnaval De Tulum with prizes for the best locals, tourists and group costumes awarded and a closing concert featuring dancing and live performances.
