Gay Lisbon
- Lisbon’s gay districts are mostly centred around Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto. Here’s a brief guide to navigating these areas:
Príncipe Real
- This chic area is known for its gay-friendly vibe, with plenty of gay and gay-friendly bars, clubs, and shops.
- Príncipe Real is also home to beautiful parks and cultural spots.
- The neighbourhood can be easily explored on foot, but Lisbon’s public transport system (metro, buses, trams) is efficient for longer distances.
- The nearest metro station is Rato (Yellow Line).
Bairro Alto
- This bohemian district comes alive at night, overflowing with bars, restaurants, and clubs.
- Barrio Alto is less polished than Príncipe Real but offers an authentic Lisbon nightlife experience.
- Bairro Alto is also walkable; however, due to its hilly streets, you might prefer taking the iconic Tram 28 or using taxis or ridesharing apps.
- Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto are adjacent to each other, making it relatively easy to move between the two. (walking time 10 to 15 minutes).
- Stay at The Late Birds Lisbon – Gay Urban Resort, a gay-exclusive guesthouse offering luxurious accommodations. We love its beautiful garden, pool, and central location, perfect for exploring both Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real.
