Mr Gay Ogunquit is a Labor Day Weekend event that has grown in popularity over the years.

Mr Gay Ogunquit is one of the liveliest traditions of Labor Day Weekend in Maine, bringing contestants, spectators and plenty of tiny swimwear to Ogunquit Beach.
The afternoon begins with the Mr Gay Ogunquit Speedo Contest on the beach before moving to MaineStreet Ogunquit for the OGTea Dance and the crowning of the winner.
- Are you visiting for Labor Day? Ogunquit fills up on holiday weekends, so book your hotel early. Stay at the Abalonia Inn, rated “Superb” by guests, complete with outdoor pool and hot tub set in a historic building just a short drive from the bars.
The Competition
- Next Edition: Sunday, September 5, 2027
- The contest is organised by MaineStreet Ogunquit, the town’s leading LGBTQ+ nightclub and entertainment venue.
- Contestants meet on Ogunquit Beach and compete in front of a large holiday-weekend crowd.
- Expect confident contestants, Speedos, beach music and plenty of support from locals and visitors.
- Previous editions have attracted competitors and spectators from across New England, Canada and further afield.
- Stay at the Black Boar Inn, a 5 star guest house set in an historic 1674 building with superb facilities, delicious breakfasts and charming décor.

- Mr Gay Ogunquit contest takes place on Labor Day Sunday at the gay beach from 2pm. The gay section ” section G ” of the beach is to the north, left as you arrive, past the volleyball nets and first catwalk around the #3 sign.
- The winner of the competition and the categories is announced during the afternoon Tea Dance in Main Street at 6pm.
- If you are driving, arrive early as parking is difficult during peak season. The beach is a 6 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the gay bars.
- Stay close to the beach at “Fabulous” Terrace by the sea, complete with outdoor pool and superb views.
The OGTea Dance
- After the beach contest, the crowd heads to the OGTea Dance at MaineStreet Ogunquit.
- The Sunday afternoon party is a long-running Ogunquit tradition featuring DJs, dancing and the official announcement of the Mr Gay Ogunquit winner.
