Gayoween is the biggest Halloween party in Cologne, featuring special guests from Cologne and worldwide. The event brings together several party promoters for one big Halloween event.

  • Gayoween returns to Cologne for one of the city’s biggest LGBTQ+ Halloween nights, taking over Quater 1 beside Heumarkt with three music areas, a lounge and outdoor smoking area.
  • The party attracts a gay, lesbian, trans crowd, combining serious Halloween production with DJs, shows, walking acts and epic costumes.
  • Area 1 – Pop Floor: DJ Sean Baker, known from Exile, Die Mumu and Puppylicious, joins DJ Marlibu from Schamlos Düsseldorf and Cockcorn Essen.
  • Area 2 – House Floor: DJ GinaG from Ibiza Live Radio joins Aroundelias from Flamingohouse Hamburg for the house side of Gayoween.
  • Area 3 – Retro & Bad-Taste Floor: DJ Hendrixx from Die Mumu and Quater 1 takes charge of the deliberately trashier side of the night.
  • Costumes are a big part of Gayoween, so make some effort with your look.
  • Quater 1’s location beside Heumarkt puts the party within easy walking distance of Cologne’s Old Town gay bars. Start with drinks around Pipinstraße and Alter Markt before heading to Gayoween later in the evening.

The Venue

  • Quater 1 is in Cologne’s Old Town, just one minute from Heumarkt station and around five minutes from Cologne Cathedral and the Hauptbahnhof.
  • The multi-area layout lets Gayoween separate its pop, house and retro crowds without losing the feeling of one large party.
  • Several of Cologne’s established gay bars are within walking distance, so you can build the evening around the Old Town rather than crossing the city before the main event.
  • Stay close to the party at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst am Dom, a five-star option directly opposite Cologne Cathedral and close to the Hauptbahnhof.

  • Cologne still has two distinct gay nightlife areas. The Old Town scene around Heumarkt puts you closest to Gayoween and mixes traditional gay pubs, terraces and men’s bars.
  • Schaafenstraße around Rudolfplatz has a younger, later and more bar-hopping feel, with several venues packed into a short stretch.

  • Amadeus – Pipinstraße/Vor St. Martin 8-10. An established gay café-bar close to Heumarkt.  making it an easy first drink before Gayoween.
  • Barcelon Colonia – Pipinstraße 3. Friendly gay bar with a Mediterranean edge, terrace, cocktails, wine and Kölsch. Sits just minutes from Quater 1
  • Baustelle 4U – Pipinstraße 5 / Vor St. Martin 12. Busy Old Town gay bar with an outdoor terrace and a stronger party feel later in the evening.
  • Pullermanns – Mathiasstraße 22. Men-only cruising bar with cabins, darkrooms and regular themed nights. It stays open late on Friday and Saturday, making it one of the Old Town options for anyone wanting to continue after the main party.
  • Pitter – Alter Markt 58. Traditional Old Town gay bar with a terrace overlooking one of the city’s busiest central squares. Better suited to an earlier drink than a full club night.

Schaafenstraße & Rudolfplatz

If you’re staying closer to Rudolfplatz, start here and move across to Heumarkt later.

  • Die Mumu – Schaafenstraße 51. Still one of the street’s best-known gay party bars, with pop, dance, karaoke and DJs. Its own site confirms daily opening and weekend parties from around 11pm.
  • ExCorner – Schaafenstraße 57-59. Long-running gay bar mixing pop, house and karaoke. It remains active in 2026 and stays open until 5am on Friday and Saturday.
  • IRON Cocktail Lounge – Schaafenstraße 45. A better choice when you want cocktails rather than Kölsch and sing-along pop. The bar remains active, with DJs and later hours at weekends.
  • Schampanja – Mauritiuswall 43. Camp, pop-heavy bar close to Schaafenstraße, useful for a lively first round before moving towards Gayoween.

Where to Stay in Cologne

For Gayoween alone, stay around Heumarkt or the Old Town. If you’re making a full gay weekend of it, Rudolfplatz gives you easier access to Schaafenstraße.

  • Excelsior Hotel Ernst am Dom – Five-star hotel opposite Cologne Cathedral and close to the main station. A luxury choice within easy reach of Gayoween.

There two gay areas in Cologne: Rudolfplatz, known locally as the “Bermuda Triangle” is more modern in style with Many of the cafes, bars and clubs around have started during the last twenty years. The Old Town is home to more Traditional pubs and bars for mixed ages.
