What to Expect

Ballroom Code Queer has become a fixture of Frankfurt’s LGBTQ+ nightlife, combining the energy of a house party with theatrical drag performances and an inclusive, fashion-conscious crowd.

  • International and local DJs playing house, disco and electronic music.
  • Drag performances, stage appearances and extravagant costumes.
  • A mixed LGBTQ+ crowd, including gay men, queer clubbers and their friends.
  • A playful dress culture where sequins, statement outfits, clubwear and individual style are encouraged.
  • Different musical spaces, allowing guests to move between house and pop sounds.

There is no strict dress code. Come dressed for a party, whether that means a carefully planned outfit or your favourite clubwear.

The Venue – Fortuna Irgendwo

Fortuna Irgendwo is one of Frankfurt’s most unusual nightlife venues, located in a former industrial building on Hanauer Landstraße in the Ostend district.

The club combines imaginative interior design, contemporary artwork and theatrical lighting with several individually styled rooms. Rather than a conventional black-box nightclub, Fortuna feels like a collection of eccentric lounges and dance spaces, each with its own personality.

  • Oktopus Bar: One of the venue’s signature features, with thousands of blue mosaic tiles forming a distinctive illuminated bar.
  • Riva Lounge: A retro-inspired space styled after an elegant 1950s Italian motorboat, with decorative furnishings and a more intimate atmosphere.
  • Tiki Garden: A separate party area used for alternative music programming, including the pop floor during Ballroom’s birthday celebration.
  • Dance Floor: The main club space brings together DJs, theatrical lighting and room for performances and dancing.
  • The venue attracts a creative, mixed crowd and is particularly suited to Ballroom’s combination of club music, drag and elaborate party production.

Fortuna is approximately a 10–15-minute taxi journey from Frankfurt’s central gay bars around Konstablerwache and the Zeil.

Before the Party – Gay Frankfurt

Frankfurt’s gay nightlife is concentrated around Konstablerwache, Alte Gasse and the streets north of the Zeil shopping district.

Start the evening here for drinks and dinner before heading east to Fortuna.

  • Zum Schwejk – A long-established gay bar on Schäfergasse, known for its friendly atmosphere, German pop music and lively local crowd.
  • Lucky’s Frankfurt – A gay bar popular for cocktails, karaoke and social evenings, attracting a broad mix of regulars and visitors.
  • Switchboard – A community-focused LGBTQ+ café and bar on Alte Gasse, with drinks, cultural events and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Orange Peel – A central live-music and club venue hosting concerts, themed parties and DJ events.

For dinner, explore the restaurants around Konstablerwache or the nearby streets of the Innenstadt before taking a taxi to Ostend.

Where to Stay in Frankfurt

Choose Ostend for easy access to Fortuna Irgendwo, or stay in Frankfurt’s city centre for the gay bars, restaurants and sightseeing.

Ostend has developed into a fashionable neighbourhood with contemporary hotels, converted industrial buildings and restaurants along Hanauer Landstraße.

  • 25hours Hotel The Goldman – Our first choice for Ballroom. A quirky design hotel on Hanauer Landstraße, with individually styled rooms, bold interiors and artwork by local creatives. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, and its location puts guests within easy reach of Fortuna Irgendwo.
  • INNSiDE by Meliá Frankfurt Ostend – A modern four-star hotel close to Ostbahnhof, offering spacious contemporary rooms, a fitness centre, sauna and restaurant. A good option for couples and friends who want comfortable accommodation near the party.
  • Scandic Frankfurt Hafenpark – A stylish contemporary hotel near the River Main, featuring bright rooms, a sauna, gym and restaurant. Its location beside Hafenpark makes it ideal for guests who enjoy a quieter setting with easy access to the Ostend nightlife district.
  • Motel One Frankfurt-Römer – A centrally located design hotel near Frankfurt’s historic Römer square, with modern rooms, comfortable beds and a lounge bar. A practical choice for visitors planning to explore the city’s gay bars and main attractions before the party.
