The Venue
- The Eagle is New York City’s premier Leather and cruising bar. It is a classic American Leather bar on multiple levels and several new club cruising spaces developed over the past year.
- Eagle NYC’s massive outdoor patio and smoking area are one of the bar’s unique features. A regular dress-code area is in effect at the bar every Thursday, and Sunday beer busts are a New York City tradition.
- The bar is housed in a two-story building, originally a horse stable dating back to the late 19th century. The mood is still dark and sleazy, the music is still heart-pounding, and the studs are still coming.
- The bar is located in Chelsea between 10th and 11th Avenue. Closed Mondays.
Gay Chelsea
Chelsea is one of NYC’s quintessential gay neighbourhoods. Located on Manhattan’s west side, from 14th to 28th Streets between Sixth Avenue and the Hudson River, the area is home to plenty of thriving gay bars, not to mention the occasional window display of a mannequin dressed in leather.
Beyond its fabled nightlife, Chelsea features some of the City’s best art galleries and museums, most in-demand restaurants, and a few shops where you can dress for excess. Chelsea is a popular neighbourhood year-round, especially during weekends. Book your hotel in advance to get the best deal.
- Barcade – This superfun spin-off from the Williamsburg original features vintage arcade games and craft beers.
- Barracuda Lounge – Barracuda is a no-frills spot where locals (or, really, anyone) can meet in a loungy space. The venerable neighbourhood institution features regular 2-for-1 drink deals.
- Bathtub Gin – Bathtub Gin is a Prohibition-style speakeasy hidden behind a secret door inside a coffee shop on Ninth Avenue. The vibe is sexy, noirish and Gatsbyesque. While it isn’t gay per se, the aesthetic is queer.
- Boxers – A queer sports bar with a buzzy atmosphere, Boxers hosts good-looking patrons—and better-looking shirtless bartenders. Come during an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race to see the craziness in action.
- The Eagle NYC – This classic leather and fetish bar features two indoor levels with pool, dancing, theme nights and an in-house leather shop. Don’t miss their famous Sunday beer blast on the rooftop.
- Rebar – This nightspot is a great space to chill early on—and then becomes a packed dance club. Drinks are cheap and creative, but the real fun comes from the drag shows, DJs and Show Tune Sundays party. Note: there’s occasionally a cash-only cover to get in.
