Each year in August, the streets of the Gràcia district in Barcelona come alive during a week-long fiesta
Each year in August, the streets of the Gràcia district in Barcelona come alive during a week-long fiesta which transforms the barrio into a sea of colour, fireworks and fun.
- Are you visiting Barcelona during the Gràcia festival? Stay close by at the Hotel Well & Come, rated “Fabulous” by guests with a rooftop terrace and swimming pool with city views.
The Festival
- La Fiesta de Gràcia is one of the most anticipated Summer Festivals in the Catalan Capital and marks the height of Summer in the busy district of Gracia.
- Gracia is located in uptown Barcelona and is famous for its bohemian vibe, bustling squares and vibrant cafes and bars.
- Each street competes to be the “best decorated” in the district, resulting in some spectacular and outrageous designs. The fierce competition, the designs innovative and instantly instaggrammable, making the festival even more popular over the past decade.
- Streets are covered by themed canopies of colourful decorations and creativity.
- Enjoy live concerts and shows throughout the fiesta, with local and international acts performing across the neighbourhood.
- The Human Towers of “Castellers” are also a spectacular sight.
- The festival is free and open to the public and attracts thousands of visitors daily.
- Stay just a short walk from the festival at the Occidental Diagonal, rated “Fabulous” by guests with spacious rooms, a modern gym, a wide variety of breakfast options and perfect location.
Correfoc – The Fire Run
- Typically on the Monday – at 7:15 p.m. – Don’t miss the “Correfoc” or fire run on the festival’s final day, an utterly crazy parade of fire with little regard to health and safety procedures (the event is protected as part of a festival of National Interest).
Getting to the Festival
- Festa Major de Gracia takes over the entire area or “barrio”. The easiest way to reach Gràcia is by metro via the Fontana stop. (Green Line L3).
- The barrio is a 13-minute car ride or a 30-minute walk through the streets of Barcelona from the gay district of Eixample.
About Gràcia
- Although just one stop from Barcelona’s fashionable Passeig de Gràcia, the neighbourhood of Gràcia feels completely different, with a real Mediterranean vibe.
- The district was an independent town until the late 19th century. The community has remained small and distinct, even after all these years.
- Popular with artists and famed for its bohemian atmosphere, the district’s famous Plaça del Sol is lined with terrace cafes busy from early afternoon until late evening.
