A Short History

What began years ago as a small cluster of bear meetups and bar nights has grown into one of the largest bear-focused travel weeks in the Americas. As Puerto Vallarta became a winter base for the international bear and leather crowd, multiple promoters layered their own branded weeks on top of the same dates. The result is what Bear Week is now – a destination week with several parallel brands, each running their own signature events, all feeding into the same packed circuit.

Here are our insider tips for a successful Puerto Vallarta Bear Week Marathon.

Party Strategy

  • Bear Week isn’t about one big party. It’s about choosing between overlapping pool sessions, socials, and late nights. Pick one daytime anchor per day, then build your night around it. Trying to do everything usually means burning out by Friday.
  • Buy tickets early for NKD, Bearadise fetish pools, and BearFest nights. Door prices go up, and popular days sell out. If you’re on a pass, still arrive early for pool parties. Capacity fills fast, and late arrivals can mean long waits in swimwear.
  • Hydrate constantly. The PV sun plus day drinking plus late nights catches people out every year. A short afternoon break back at your hotel often makes the difference between making Saturday night or missing it.

Getting Around

  • Zona Romántica is walkable, and most bars, clubs, and beach venues are within 5-15 minutes on foot. Wear shoes you can walk in, even if you’re heading to a pool party.
