New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Rio

  • Wednesday 31st December, 2026 – Take it from us, no one wants to be inside when the clock strikes 12 in Rio!
  • Check out the best places to see the fireworks and celebrations with our gay guide to NYE in Rio.
  • Stay at the 4 star, Arena Ipanema Hotel, with a rooftop pool, located between Ipanema and Arpoador. One of the more affordable hotels close to the beach, but book early.

Welcome Rio 2027

  • Friday 1st January from 4 pm to 6 am – Welcome Rio takes over the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro
  • The 2027 lineup features international guest DJ Tomer Maizner with Erik Vilar, Junyo, Karol Figueiredo, Las Bibas From Vizcaya, Leanh, Rosane Amaral and VMC.
  • Expect a long open-air and indoor New Year’s Day session beside Guanabara Bay, moving from late afternoon into sunrise.
  • The event is designed as the main first-day celebration, with a large dancefloor, full production, bars and a crowd arriving after Réveillon night.
  • Take a taxi to the venue – it is a 25-minute ride from the beaches of Ipanema.

Museu de Arte Moderna Venue Guide

  • MAM sits in Flamengo Park at Avenida Infante Dom Henrique 85, beside Marina da Glória and close to Santos Dumont Airport.
  • The modernist museum and landscaped waterfront grounds give the party room for a large-scale indoor and outdoor production.
  • From Ipanema or Arpoador, allow around 20–35 minutes by app taxi; New Year traffic controls can make the trip longer.

Atlântico Official Afterparty

  • Saturday 2nd January, 2027 – Atlântico begins at 6 am on at The Home Rio.
  • It is the official continuation of Welcome Rio, taking the party from MAM into Saturday morning.
  • A combo ticket covers Welcome Rio and Atlântico; check the ticket conditions and entry rules before purchase.
  • Expect a morning electronic session and a crowd arriving directly from the main party. The lineup is awaiting announcement.

The Home Rio Venue Guide

  • The Home is at Rua Sacadura Cabral 135 in Saúde, in Rio’s port district.
  • The large club has a main floor, mezzanine, several bars and the production scale required for headline circuit events.
  • MAM to The Home is normally around 10–20 minutes by app taxi, subject to road closures and New Year traffic.
  • Ipanema to The Home normally takes around 25–40 minutes by app taxi. Arrange your return through the app and wait inside until the car is confirmed.
  • A nearby option is Novotel RJ Porto Atlântico, roughly 5–10 minutes away by car. It is practical for the club, but less convenient for Rio’s beaches and gay nightlife.

Where to Stay

Our recommendation: stay in Ipanema or Arpoador and take an app taxi to the parties. You will be close to the gay beach around Rua Farme de Amoedo, restaurants, bars and the Copacabana Réveillon celebrations, rather than isolated near a single venue.

  • Hotel Arpoador Beachfront at Arpoador, a strong base between Ipanema and Copacabana with a rooftop pool and easy access to both districts.
  • Arena Ipanema Hotel A practical four-star stay by Arpoador, close to the beach and a good choice for splitting time between parties and sightseeing.
  • Hotel Fasano Rio de Janeiro Luxury on Ipanema Beach with a rooftop pool, polished service and a prime position near Arpoador.
  • Miramar by Windsor Copacabana Beachfront at the Ipanema end of Copacabana, handy for the fireworks and within walking distance of Arpoador.

Rio District Guide

  • Ipanema – The best all-round base for gay visitors. Stay near Rua Farme de Amoedo for the gay beach, bars, restaurants and quick access to Arpoador.
  • Arpoador The sweet spot between Ipanema and Copacabana. It works well for beach days, sunset and walking access to both neighbourhoods.
  • Copacabana – Best for visitors who want to be close to the main Réveillon celebrations. Choose Posto 5 or Posto 6 for easier access to Ipanema.
  • Flamengo and Glória – Closer to MAM, with quicker transfers to the New Year’s Day party, but a smaller gay nightlife scene and less convenient beach access.
  • Saúde and the port district – Convenient for The Home, yet not the best holiday base. Use an app taxi from Ipanema rather than choosing your whole stay around the afterparty.

Most of Rips gay bars are located in Ipanema and Copacabana. Ipanema’s gayest nightspot is on the beach block of Rua Teixeira de Melo, next to Farme.

Along Copacabana beach there is a traditionally gay-friendly area known as Bolsa, near Lido. Hustlers are pretty much part of the scene, and you should keep a good hold on your wallet
