The street festival takes place at the Marienplatz, Munich’s historic central square. And in the evening, the honorable neo-gothic Munich City Hall opens it’s doors and is transformed into an enormous party location for the gay and lesbian community.
The Schwules Strassenfest Munich (Munich Gay Street Festival) begins at 1pm and finishes at 11.30pm, followed by a series of after parties start up in all of the gay clubs and bars.
The “Schwules Strassenfest“ on Hans-Sachs-Strasse has developed into one of Munich’s biggest summer parties.
Over 10,000 visitors flock to the Glockenbachviertel to eat, drink, dance and just generally party the day away. Munich plays host to many street festivals throughout the Summer season but this is perhaps the largest of its kind.
The Hans-Sachs-Straβenfest (as it’s traditionally known) was started in 1991 and is getting more popular each year. Two streets are closed to traffic for the event, Hans-Sachs-Strasse and Ick Strasse.
You will find a large stage with Djs and Acts as well as beer and food tents, a street market selling all everything everything from novelty items and clothing to traditional gifts and more.
