Barcelona’s Nochevieja is a massive New Year’s Eve spectacular that takes over the famous Avinguda Maria Cristina with a spectacular show, stunning fireworks and a celebratory atmosphere.
- Stay right by the fireworks and celebrations at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza featuring spacious rooms, a rooftop pool and highly rated breakfasts!
New Year in Barcelona
- Join the thousands of locals and visitors at the foot of Montjuïc to ring in the New Year with music, fireworks, cava, and of course, a dozen grapes, one for each chime of the clock at midnight.
- Events begin at 9.30 pm with the pre-show, when the lights of the Magic Fountain of Montjuic welcome the start of the celebrations.
- From 11.45 pm, the stage comes alive with performers and dancers, followed at midnight by the 12 chimes.
- Events continue for another 20 minutes with a breathtaking pyrotechnical show featuring flame throwers and light projections.
- As events end, visitors make their way to the gay bars in Eixample
Getting Around On NYE
- Eixample is an 11-minute taxi ride from the NYE celebrations or 17 minutes by the Metro.
- The Subway is open all night long during NYE.
- It can be pretty hectic after the event as everyone makes their way through to the nearest Metro station (Plz Espanya)
- Try Tarragona (Line 3) or Hostafrancs (line 1) stops, where the queues are shorter.
New Years Eve Gay Events
- Make the NH Calderon your home base for your Christmas and New Year escape. It is ideally located close to Eixample’s gay bars and clubs, the famous Las Ramblas in the heart of Barcelona and a short ride from the Christmas Markets.
- Barcelona parties late into the night, even on a typical weekend. Gay bars fill up after the fireworks celebrations, and the party continues until 3 am. Clubs get busy from around 2 am. Most parties run until 6 am.
- Most late-night events are held at clubs operated by Groupo Arena. Check their program of events.
- Arena Experience is on Ronda de Sant Pere, 19 -21, 5 minutes by taxi or a 15-minute walk from Eixample.
- Safari Disco Club is on Carrer de Tarragona, 141, 20 minutes by taxi 15 mins by subway (via Psg de Gracia).
- Tip! You can top up your energy levels with a delicious breakfast of churro fritters and a cup of thick hot chocolate at one of the churrerías in Barcelona and at the stalls at the Epiphany fairs.
