Plan a gay Christmas and New Year in Palma Mallorca with festive markets, winter lights, harbour views, cosy gay bars, NYE parties, fireworks and the Three Kings parade.
- Stay close to the Christmas Markets at the Nobis Hotel Palma in the old-town set in a restored palace near Passeig des Born with spa, nice hotel bar for pre-market drinks and easy walking to all central markets and gay nightlife.
The Event
- Next Edition: Friday 21st November – Tuesday 6th January, 2026.
- Palma in December glows with warm lights, harbour evenings and festive streets.
- Markets fill the old town with colour, music and mulled drinks, close to the city’s compact but friendly gay-scene.
- And you can end the year by enjoying a spectacular firework display by the sea, complete with midnight grapes.
- And with highs of 17 degrees by day, there’s plenty of time for long lunches in the sun. December is lively with plenty of bars and restaurants open. Enjoy a different Christmas Market escape this December.
- Tip! Enjoy hot chocolate with ensaïmada at Ca’n Joan de S’aigo after wandering the markets and lights – very old-school and very Mallorcan.
- Book restaurants around 24th, 25th and 31st ahead; most popular old-town spots and Santa Catalina tapas bars fill with locals and visiting families.
Fira de Nadal i dels Reis
- Next Edition: 21st November 2025 – 6th January, 2026
- Right in the heart of Palma city centre (Plaça Major, Plaça d’Espanya, La Rambla, Via Roma).
- Featuring long rows of stalls for nativity figurines, craft gifts, candles and decorations, spread across the old town streets between Plaça Major, Plaça d’Espanya and Via Roma.
- Explore the market and then take a trip to the cathedral and Passeig des Born.
Puerto Portals Christmas Market
- Next Edition: 12th December 2025 – 6th January, 2026
- Portals Nous (Calvià) – German-style harbour market along the marina walkway, with wooden huts, gourmet stalls, ice rink and a full programme of choirs, kids’ workshops, parades and visits from Santa and the Three Kings.
- Smart nautical setting with designer shops and restaurants; about 15–20 minutes from Palma by taxi, so easy for an evening out if you are based in the city.
- A taxi from Santa Catalina or the old town to Puerto Portals runs around 15–20 minutes in light traffic, to Port Adriano around 25–30 minutes.
Pueblo Español Advent Market
- Next Edition: 5.-9.12. | 12.-14.12. | 19.-22. | 26.-29.12. | 2.-4.01.2026
- Son Armadams – Atmospheric “mini Spain” open-air museum dressed with lights, DJ sets and shows, wooden huts, mulled wine and food stalls in a contained complex just above the harbour.
- Great choice for an evening out of the central Palma, set in a more local district; short taxi from the old town and a walk or quick ride down to the seafront bars.
- Stay close to this market and escape into a wonderland at the Hotel Feliz-pueblo-espanol , a small, colourful hotel with rooftop pool and harbour views, a short stroll from Pueblo Español and a quick taxi into Santa Catalina or the old town.
Christmas Lights
- Switch on 22nd November, 2025 – The official switch-on in late November brings confetti and performances; afterwards, Passeig des Born, La Rambla and the old town stay lit through early January and become the main evening paseo.
- Beléns (nativity scenes) – Town hall, churches and markets display elaborate beléns, with the March Foundation and Santa Catalina Market among highlights; figurines at Plaça Major market are classic souvenirs.
- Stay in the old town for a magical Christmas experience at the Hotel Bosch Boutique -old-town, housed in a historic Palma building dating from 1936 and walking distance of the gay bars in Santa Catalina and La Lonja, plus Christmas markets.
Gay Palma at Christmas
- Palma’s “gay zone” is a triangle linking the old town, La Lonja and Santa Catalina.
- Old town & La Lonja – Narrow streets between Plaça Major and the waterfront, with Bar Flexas as the long-running camp hangout for locals, drag divas and mixed crowds.
- Santa Catalina – Slightly west of the old town, across Avinguda Argentina, filled with restaurants and bars, and home to spots like La Dama de Ella and The2, which push more into DJ nights and shows.
- Gay bars tend to stay open through the holidays with special nights near Christmas and New Year; keep an eye out Instagram stories for Bar Flexas, The2 and La Dama de Ella, its the best way to catch pop-up drag or themed parties.
- Cruising and sauna options like Dark Cruising Bar and Sauna Spartacus keep things ticking over, more low-key than peak summer but active at weekend
New Year’s Eve in Palma (Nochevieja)
- Gay Celebrations – Don´t miss the biggest gay party of the season, Trantor, an epic, circuit-style party with international guest DJs, drag queens, gogos and stunning production, at Wave Club on NYE.
- Street celebrations – The city organises free New Year parties with live DJs and the clock chimes in Plaça de Cort and Plaça de la Reina, with music until around 2am.
- Twelve grapes ritual – Like the rest of Spain, people eat 12 grapes with the midnight chimes for luck; supermarkets sell pre-packed “lucky grapes” and local media push the tradition hard.
- Fireworks & sea views – Fireworks are often visible around the port and Parc de la Mar; a walk down from the cathedral gives harbour views, then you can head back into the old town or Santa Catalina for bars.
- Gay visitors tend to start in a restaurant in Santa Catalina or the old town, hit the grapes in the main squares, then roll back to Bar Flexas, The2 or La Dama de Ella for a local, mixed crowd
Three Kings Parade
- 5th January, 2026 – Cavalcada dels Reis – the Three Kings arrive by boat at Moll Vell and parade through the city on a long cavalcade with floats, music and sweets, finishing near the centre.
- Families crowd the streets from late afternoon; for visitors, a spot near the port or along the central avenues works well, then you can finish the night with dinner and a bar in Santa Catalina or La Lonja.
- Bakeries and supermarkets fill with roscón de Reyes on 5th–6th January; pairing that with coffee in a café by the markets is a neat way to close a Christmas-New Year stay.
