- Stay close to the gay bars and clubs at the Mitsui Garden Hotel, and “Excellent” rated 4-star property. We love the hotel’s excellent location and spacious rooms with sweeping city views. The Venue
- Club Arch – Compact gay club centered on a raised stage, known for its glass shower installation used during SHOWER CANDY nights, built for clear sightlines and high-impact lighting.
- Serious technical setup for a small Tokyo room: Martin Audio system with sub, Genelec booth monitors, and a Pioneer DJM-A9 with CDJs delivering tight, club-level sound.
- Mixed programming shaped by Ni-chome culture – midweek bar energy shifts into themed parties and packed weekends; around a 3-minute walk from Shinjuku-sanchome Station.
Shinjuku
- Shinjuku Ni-chome is Tokyo’s most famous gay district in Shinjuku Ward.
- Tokyo’s primary gay hub packed into roughly five blocks, filled with discreet entrances, narrow streets.
- Its worth exploring with so many different bar options.
- Driven by “kei” micro-scenes, with many bars geared towards a range of guys, fetishes and themes.
- Check out the top 10 places to stay in Shinjuku.
Bars
- AiiRO Cafe – A popular starting point for a night out with a friendly street-side atmosphere.
- Arty Farty – This is a long-running gay spot with a busy dance floor that attracts a younger crowd.
- Dragon Men – One of the larger bars in the area, welcoming to foreigners with horny dance shows and a party vibe.
- Eagle Tokyo – This busy gay bar has English-speaking staff, a friendly atmosphere, excellent service and a large dance floor, which gets busy after midnight.
Clubs
- AiSOTOPE Lounge – Two storied gay club with regular men-only parties and a great cocktail menu.
- The Annex – Often considered an extension of Arty Farty with no cover charge for both venues. Spacious dancefloor and theme nights attract a mix of locals, tourists and expats.
Saunas & Bathhouses
- 24 Kaikan Shinjuku – A 24-hour gay sauna with various facilities including a gym, sleeping rooms, and a communal bath.
Tips
- Many venues are small and can be hidden on the upper floors of buildings; look for rainbow stickers or signs.
- Some bars may have cover charges that include a drink.
- Ni-chome gets crowded on weekends, so consider weekdays for a more relaxed experience.
- While Japan is generally conservative, Shinjuku Ni-chome is very LGBT-friendly, and many venues have English-speaking staff.
