Stockwig Stockholm Drag Festival 2023
Stockwig is Stockholm’s premier ever drag festival, filled with lots of drag related fun such as art, lectures, competitions, live performances and shows.
- Stay in the old town, Gamla Stan, and take a taxi to the venue. The event takes place during the Stockholm Pride celebrations, so hotels fill up fast. Stay at the Hotel Sven Vintappare, a “Super” rated hotel with spacious rooms, great location and highly-rated breakfasts.
The Festival
- Each year Stockwig fills Stockholm with wigs, glitter, glam, performance art and queer activism in Sweden’s biggest drag festival.
- The festival is divided into two parts. First a fabulous afternoon with brunch, talks, bingo and other activities. Then follows an extravagant evening with the legendary grand drag contest and an explosion of performances and surprises.
- The main performances will all take place before 22.00. The Organisers encourage you to join the whole event so you won’t miss out on any of the fun. As they say “it will be a ride.”
The Venue
- The event takes place in Trädgården. It is an ultra-popular outdoor summer club located under the Skanstull bridge in Södermalm. If you’re craving an authentic festival feel, this is where you should be heading. Here, you can drink beer from plastic cups, dance, watch live performances and play table tennis or pétanque.
- Arrive early to avoid long lines. The clubs is a 15 minute drive from the old town. Stay close by at the Clarion Hotel with great views and unique design features.
Gay Stockholm
Stockholm has no gay enclave as such, but gay and gay-friendly establishments are scattered throughout the city and rainbow flags fly high in many of Stockholm’s central districts. But the greatest concentration of gay bars and clubs is to be found in two areas: the trendy Södermalm district and Gamla Stan, Old Town, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world.
