The Melbourne Cabaret Festival is the second largest cabaret festival in the world, and is a major winter arts event in the city. Cabaret is flourishing in Australia, and nowhere more so than in the hip and cultural city of Melbourne.
- Melbourne is blessed with glitzy skyscrapers, a beautiful bay and an eclectic mix of neighbourhoods with busy cafes, gay bars and funky restaurants. Stay in the fashionable South Yarra neighbourhood at the the Adelphi Hotel, with bold interiors and excellent attention to details.
The Festival
Note in 2022 due to issues with funding, the event did not proceed in its usual two-week June format. We hope to see the event return to normal in 2023.
- Melbourne Cabaret Festival is a mammoth three-week glitz and glamour spectacular.
- For more than a decade, the Festival has evolved into one which provides a perfect launching pad for new cabaret shows. Cabaret is a diverse, welcoming art form and our program reflects that each year.
- The festival hosts several events for the LGTBQ community. Previous cabaret shows have included a new age drag show: “when thinking about drag everyone expects a Judy Garland but no one expects a Serena Williams,”
- The Festival has also proudly champions causes including marriage equality and on-stage visibility of under-represented cultures, races, sexualities, genders and ages.
- Other events such as Amy Winehouse: Resurrected, Death of a Demi Diva and He’s Every Woman have gone on to become winning productions featured across the country.
- The entire 3 week program is diverse, wide and varied and has shows appealing to all tastes. Awaiting the 2023 program
The Venues
- Events are held in Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran and at The Butterfly Club in the Central Business District.
